Gratitude List in the Time of Coronavirus

by Ginger Keller Gannaway

Every morning while I “sit ugly” and drink my coffee, I meditate and pray. Part of my routine is reading my gratitude list. However, in these crazy coronavirus times I cannot enjoy all the things from my recent past: “Live Music” “Movie Theaters” “Dinner with Friends and Family.” So now I slow down for a new gratitude list.

What new things are you grateful for?

Author:

I grew up as a crooked girl who dealt with a mild case of cerebral palsy. In a small Cajun town during the 1960s, I relied on my little sisters' support and energy to give me confidence and our grandma's movie theater to help me escape when life's "pas bon" moments overwhelmed me.

  1. Thanks, Ginger for the reminder that gratitude is an attitude! I am grateful for playing gin rummy and dominoes with Boo and actually having fun! I am grateful for our renewed friendship with each other. love you

    1. Nancy, of course I’m thankful for your constant support with life issues and your writing friend wisdom! Love you back!
Also, I bet you start beating Boo at cards before too long! I’m betting on you.

  2. Yes! Attitude of gratitude! Thanks for the reminder. I, too, am grateful to birdsong when I go on walks around our neighborhood. I have more than once actually envied the birds, as I realize that their lives are not affected by all of this. I’m grateful for a big trampoline in our backyard so my boys can get their seemingly endless energy out. I’m grateful for my friends, with whom I can still laugh and cry about all of the things. I’m grateful for Luke, who still has job security and puts himself at risk today and every day as a firefighter. And I’m grateful for my family, who has been staying more connected than ever, even though trips and events to see each other have been cancelled. I’m grateful for my boys, who still love me even though my patience is thinner than ever, and whose hugs feel like medicine. Love you!!

    1. Wow, Jessie! I cannot imagine how hard this brave new world has been for you. Your gratitude list shows your strength and love and optimism. Also, you remind me of when my 3 boys were young and like wild pups tumbling through the house but I only had them home for the summer & we had not heard of “shelter in place). So glad you have your tramboline!!! And your HERO HUSBAND. Give them all hugs for me.
